Tata Avinya EV Platform to Spawn Five New Electric Models as Tata Prepares Major EV Expansion

Tata Motors has revealed the next phase of its electric vehicle strategy, confirming that the upcoming Tata Avinya range will form the backbone of a major product expansion through the latter half of this decade. Backed by a new premium electric architecture derived from Jaguar Land Rover, the Avinya lineup will give rise to at least five all-new electric models, marking Tata’s boldest push yet into high-end zero-emission mobility.

The announcement follows a significant milestone for Tata Motors, which recently crossed 2.5 lakh EV sales in just five years. The Nexon EV also created history by becoming the first electric car in India to exceed one lakh units sold, strengthening Tata’s dominance in the country’s EV space.

First Avinya Model to Debut in 2026

Tata has confirmed that calendar year 2026 will mark the beginning of this next chapter. The Sierra EV will enter the market early next year, followed by a facelifted Punch EV. By the end of CY2026, Tata will unveil the first production model from the Avinya family, which will sit at the very top of Tata’s electric vehicle hierarchy.

Avinya will represent Tata’s most technologically advanced EV range, developed as a born-electric platform with a strong focus on digital architecture, premium features, and long-range capability.

Five New Avinya EV Nameplates Planned by FY2030

Looking ahead, Tata Motors has stated that by FY2030 its electric vehicle portfolio will feature at least five completely new Avinya-based models. These will be supported by regular facelifts, software upgrades, and lifecycle improvements across Tata’s existing EV lineup.

Internally, Tata is preparing for a massive investment programme that could exceed USD 1 billion, underlining the scale of its long-term commitment to electric mobility.

Multiple Avinya Body Styles Under Evaluation

Under the Avinya project, Tata is reportedly developing several models codenamed P1 to P5. The P1, which is the closest to production, is expected to compete with high-end electric SUVs such as Mahindra’s XEV 9e and BE 6.

Future Avinya models are likely to cover a broad spectrum of body styles, including midsize electric SUVs measuring around 4.4 metres and large three-row luxury SUVs stretching close to 4.9 metres in length. Among these, the P4 variant is being evaluated as a lifestyle-focused premium SUV aligned with global luxury standards.

Avinya to Use JLR-Derived EMA Electric Platform

To support the premium positioning of Avinya, Tata Motors has entered a strategic agreement with Jaguar Land Rover to license the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA). This advanced EV platform will be localised in India to balance cost efficiency with international engineering standards.

Production of the first Avinya model will take place at Tata’s Sanand plant in Gujarat, while future models could roll out of a proposed manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

Tata Targets One Lakh Annual Avinya Sales by 2030

Tata is aiming for combined Avinya volumes of nearly one lakh units per year by the end of the decade, positioning the brand not only as India’s EV leader but also as a strong contender in the global premium electric vehicle market.

With the Avinya range, Tata Motors is preparing to transition from being India’s EV pioneer to becoming its dominant premium electric brand, reshaping the country’s automotive landscape for the electric era.
